Google Sync for iPhone

Google yesterday turned on its beta Sync service for the iPhone, Blackberry, Android, and Symbian phones. With this service you can sync your contacts and calendars over-the-air to your phone. I tried this out yesterday and it takes a little bit of setup work, but for all you Google Apps users, YES it does sync for you too. One thing to note, you do have to login to m.google.com/sync FROM YOUR PHONE to select witch calendars to sync.

Have changes pushed directly to your phone

Synchronize your contacts. Get your Google contacts quickly and easily to your iPhone. With Sync, you can have access to your address book at anytime and place that you need it.

Get calendar alerts. Using your iPhone’s native calendar, you can now access multiple Google calendars, and be alerted for upcoming appointments with sound or vibration.

Always in sync. Your calendar and contacts stay synchronized whether you access them from your iPhone or from your computer. Add or edit contacts or calendar entries right on your device or on your Google account on the web.

Important! Google Sync uses the Microsoft© Exchange ActiveSync© protocol. When setting up a new Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone, all existing Contacts and Calendar events will be removed from your phone. Please make sure to back up any important data before you set up Google Sync.

Keynote Remote for iPhone

Used the Keynote Remote today for the first time. It was super responsive, easy to setup and all around an amazing addition to my presentation.

I still use the presenter display, this this gives you anouther place to look for notes and next slide info.

Only note is that slides with a lot of builds is a little wierd, since you swipe the screen to advance even of this is not the end results on screen.

However, this might me negated by the use of the the transitions instead of builds.

Tivo Remote on your iPhone

For those with TiVo Series 3 boxes, DVR Remote turns your iPhone or iPod touch into not only a remote control for your TiVo, but also a much easier way to enter text, compared to using the remote.

This is not your typical slow responding remote app. Using Tivo’s built-in support for Network Remote Control it send direct commands that respond instantly.

Video inputs in hotel: Hyatt Place has it right!

I don’t know how many times I’ve been disappointed by the lack of TV inputs at hotels, but when Apple put me in a Hyatt Place for a recent trip I found someone that is doing it right. Not only did they provide inputs, but they included composite, component, coaxial, VGA, HDMI and even extra power outlets. On top of that they setup an easy to us way to switch inputs. Check it out in the attached photos.

‘Dark Knight’ grosses $300M, shattering record

The Dark Knight” continues to obliterate box office records, crossing the $300 million mark in just 10 days.

The epic Batman saga grossed $75.6 million in its second weekend in theaters, pushing its domestic total to $314,245,000, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Sunday.

That surpasses the record set in 2006 by “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” which took 16 days to make $300 million.

The latest Batman installment already had broken records for best opening weekend at $158.4 million and best single-day with $66.4 million. It’s also busted records in its showings on IMAX screens, making $16.3 million in its first 10 days.

Fellman expects that “Dark Knight” could reach $400 million in about 18 days, which would beat the record “Shrek 2″ set in 2004 when it made that much money in 43 days.

Use iPhone to type on your Apple TV

Looks like you can use the Remote App for iPhone to enter text on your Apple TV. Does Apple ever stop amazing us with surprise features?

Excerpt from DF:

One thing that stinks about Apple TV is the on-screen keyboard. You don’t need to type often, but when you do — like for searching YouTube, or entering a Wi-Fi password — you get a crummy on-screen keyboard (ABCDEF rather than QWERTY) that you have to navigate using the up/down/left/right buttons on the little remote.

But it ends up Apple’s new Remote app for the iPhone solves this. Any time you need to type on Apple TV, if you have the Remote app open on your iPhone, the keyboard will appear and you can just type on your iPhone instead. Characters are reflected live on the Apple TV as you type.

A nice little touch, and, as far as I can tell, something Apple hasn’t mentioned as one of the Remote app’s features. (Thanks to DF reader Earl Misquitta for the tip.)
